I was approached in 2005 with this idea by Stephen Regenold, a writer for the Star Tribune, a regular contributor to the New York Times travel section and a top blogger on Outside.com. We launched in 2006, and the site is regarded as a top blog and online publication for product reviews and news in the outdoors world. The site contains thousands of pages of content — gear reviews, news, travel and adventure stories, a video section, photo galleries, and giveaway contests. The site's “Daily Dose” blog is often cited as a top source for industry news and product reviews.
The site has grown to include a group of 6-8 freelance writers who regularly contribute content. We've successfully built marketing partnerships with REI, Champion/HanesBrands, Wenger, The Alleghenies Tourism Bureau & the Teva Mountain Games. Annually, we field a team for the Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado and have had great success partnering with many of the sponsors to help promote their events & brands online. In the Winter and Spring of 2010, we're sending a team to compete in the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race as well as partnering with team "Climb With Us" to send our main editor to Everest.
